Android: Help testing upcoming Delta Chat 2.10.0 release!

aaanndddd… after another round of testing here comes 2.9.0 with some bugs more smashed and some little details polished:

and now: here is Delta Chat 2.9.0 - choose your flavor and mind your backups:

Всем привет! Ввиду блокировки в стране чатмейл-серверов, использую классический, доступный из РФ, почтовый сервер.
По v.2.9:

and now: here is Delta Chat 2.10.0 - choose your flavor and mind your backups:

Changelog:

  • fix “Archived” item’s layout in chat-list
  • don’t enlarge “Saved Messages” and “Devices Messages” avatars on click
  • share email address for email contacts instead of vCard
  • open existing encrypted chat when opening a mailto link or clicking an email address in a message bubble
  • update to core 2.10.0

I think this is the core. Just for convenience:

Could the names of exported VCards please include the profile name of the contact? “vcard_2.vcf” is less legible.

Could the names of backup files please include the version number of the core of the client from which they were exported?

this thread here is for the beta-testers to test and report bugs in the upcoming releases not to ask for features, you can create dedicated threads to request features

Yes, you’re right, sorry.

Is the fact that emojis (initiating profile names) no longer render in avatars intentional? I thought so, but then I saw avatar emojis mentioned as desirable on Github.

Hm, works for me

What is intentional is that all unencrypted email conversations get a grey email-letter icon, rather than an avatar, in order to clearly distinguish them from encrypted chat conversations.

Otherwise, can you send a screenshot?

Sorry for the delayed reply, Hokuri. I’m afraid I was wrong about it being in the core. In DeltaTOUCH, the emojis do not render, thus:

I misunderstood @Raiden to say that this was also happening in Deltachat clients, to. On rereading, this is obviously not what Raiden said, and I should report this to @lk108 in some more appropriate place.

That screenshot shows 2.9 and an encrypted (and chatmail) account, so the avatar shouldn’t be a grey envelope (and it isn’t). Would an open, transparent envelope (perhaps contrasted with a wax-sealed envelope?), communicate “unencrypted” better? But perhaps it is itself an emoji, U+1F582, and a custom graphic wouldn’t be acceptable. Perhaps an envelope charged with an open padlock could be made by surimposing emojis. Some possibilities from icons used in other e-mail clients (most of which would need negating).

There were quite some (online and offline) discussions about the avatar for unencrypted email conversations, and while my personal opinion is still that the avatar should communicate that this is unencrypted (or, alternatively, that we should communicate the unencryptedness in some other way), it’s up to @r10s to make the final call in such decisions, and he went with the mail-letter icon we have. Now is not the time to re-open this discussion though, because we need to focus our energy on other things like fixing bugs, audio/videocalls, and channels.

(FTR, we’re using a custom graphic already, no emoji, and can easily change it however we wish in the future).

Still, thanks for your input, it’s always good to know what the community thinks!

Apologies, I hadn’t seen that discussion. If at some point another custom graphic is wanted, and I have a bit of time at said point, I could make one; let me know.

Is there a place to polish interface or website English translations?

No need to apologize, discussions happen i a lot of places, not all of which are public, it’s very understandable that you coundn’t follow all of them : )

Thanks for the offer!

Translations happen at Delta Chat localization | Transifex, the English source code for the website is at GitHub - deltachat/deltachat-pages: Delta Chat Website. IIRC, if you want to actually change the content (so that all translations will be re-translated), submit a pull request to GitHub - deltachat/deltachat-pages: Delta Chat Website, otherwise, the change in the English version can be pushed directly to Transifex. @r10s knows more details.

I would advise to just submit some small tweak to some wording so that you get to know how to do it. It’s fine if you do it wrong at first, everyone here is very friendly : )
