I would not want automated probing, but most Linux mailclients will talk to a keyring. DC will allow me to import public keys/contacts from my keyring only if I export them all as flat .asc files first.
Keyrings are currently in a state of upheaval, but once that has settled down a bit integration would be convenient, and would make DC less walled.
