The main idea is to

- center the logo
- remove modal QRcode and show it right away
- avoid unnecessary text or instructions

I can see how hiding the code might be result of a privacy measure.
If that is the case, at least having a fake indicator QR code image as a hint would be nicer than a textual instruction.

thanks a lot for the hint.

indeed, the left-aligned title looks a bit off, esp. on desktop. i created a PR at

for the not directly showing of the QR code, consideration _that time_ that often one will open the received invite link on the _same device_. iirc, showing a QR code was confusing on first user testing, “hm, i could open link i received via mastodon on my phone, but why shall i scan that now?” the QR code has quite some presence, so ppl tend to see that and only after that (if at all!) read the button labels.

we have no hints that it is different today nor we have hints that ppl are not understanding the “Tap if you have Delta Chat on another Device”. maybe a little QR code logo could be an improvement, tho

for “avoid unnecessary text or instructions” - do you have concrete additional suggestions?

the page is a single index.html without any dependencies on purpose (so it can be reviewed easily), feel free to do a PR if you like

I am referring to eventually not having to rely on an explanation how to open the chatroom in alternative usecases. If we could offer an obviously clickable **and** scannable soluition it would save an extra click and the extra instruction.

Aside from that: it occured to me that “INSTALL DELTA CHAT” might make more sense, as the mere download won’t help.

I understand your usability reasoning now, I guess the QR-code actually does invite an instant gut reaction that you HAVE to scan with a phone. I’m curious if there isn’t an established arrangement in similar situations that make it clear to most people that clicking/scanning are both viable.

maybe somewhat over the top, but generally like this:

Yes, that could look like this:
