as per 1/9/2026, how is the situation of sending files via delta? what’s the best route to send bigger files? are there smart integration with wormhole or similar? It’s the only crux that really makes me mantain also a personal telegram account other than the shitposter one

Hi, Playing with Delta Chat I realize that files sent using the app will have the same limitations as attachments for emails, which mean probably around 25 MB or even less if some of the participants has lower quotas. Maybe an integration with services like Firefox Send, which also locally encrypts files could be useful when you try to send a file bigger than 25 MB. If Delta Chat could use Jirafeau for large file transfers or some other decentralized file-sharing server type, then a new feature for video messaging could become possible. Not much has changed. You can’t send files bigger than ~25 MB (depending on server config).

Well… This really is a pain point of delta then. Obviously it doesn’t need to become a file storage thing like telegram, but at the same time it’s very normal to exchange files with the messenger. RAW from my camera are 40mb each…

Would it be so hard to include Sendme - Iroh or https://www.dumbpipe.dev/ ? They use iroh like delta

It’s easy to make a proof-of-concept where you transfer a file from one user to another over Dumbpipe or whaterver, but hard to make a real solution, that works reliably and privately IMU.

and yes “big” (anything bigger than 25mb) file sharing is one of the remaining weak points of Delta Chat and very necessary IMHO to be a replacement for WhatsApp etc. let’s continue the discussion in the other existing thread: Large files support [integrate with large file sending solutions and workarounds]
