2FA and Privacy

GitHub has now made 2FA mandatory. And they only allow ‘authenticator apps’ like Google or they force you to give up your phone number. This is a huge privacy invasion.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get around this requirement or options that might be used that are safer?

You can use any application implementing TOTP, including the TOTP webxdc in Delta Chat itself, free mobile apps like Aegis or KeePassXC password manager on desktop, or its fork ChiPass.
