Hello.
It is good that DC accepts crypto donations. But it’s not good that we accept only Bitcoin. Bitcoin has a major problem and that’s the fees. For a small donation of 10 USD, you might need to pay 0.5 to 1.0 USD.
Other coins like Litecoin, Monero and Bitcoin Cash have much lower fees. In my experience with Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash, for a 10 USD transaction, the fee is usually less than 1 cent.
in ArcaneChat - Private chats for the family I allow donating in several cryptos using a service that helps with that while I only need to have a single wallet, maybe Delta Chat page could use something like that
We’ll probably get an XMR address and other donation options sooner or later.
There are some bureaucracy and tax questions before we’ll do that.
Maybe a service that converts it to fiat directly, like adb suggested, could make the bureaucracy easier, though it would add dependency on another entity and extra fees per transaction (also min transaction amount on nowpayments is like 2 USD).
I want to chime in here. A BCH wallet address is as easy as a BTC wallet address, even though I’d prefer an XMR option as well. Right, do the accounting right, yet what’s the difference to BTC?
I just donated 0.041 BCH (22.70 USD according to blockchair) and you received 0.00016186 BTC (17.61 USD according to blockchair). I don’t ever want to do that again, yet I want to support Delta Chat for I love it so much what you do! Right on!
