Adding group members when using a classic email profile

Delta Chat version

Delta Chat v2.22.1 on Iphone. German version. I am using a classic email profile.

Expected behavior

New group → add member (Mitglied hinzufügen) → add member manually (Kontakt manuell hinzufügen) → a new member is created.

I would like create groups only based on Email addresses. I do not require any encryption. We only care about highest compatibility between DeltaChat and “normal” email clients. This would be perfect and a real game changer for us (in the sense of getting away from other messenger apps)!

Actual behavior

Nothing happens. Manually adding a contact only by email address does not work. How can I create groups?

That’s odd. Thank yuou for reporting.

Can you add individual contacts manually, as for 1-to-1 chats, then add the contacts to the group?

Since version 2, it is unfortunately no longer possible to add new members to an unencrypted group. As a workaround, the group can be cloned and new members added during cloning.

That is really problematic! It never occurred to me that that disfunction could be intentional. Thank you, @Raiden.

Thank you for answering. Will this functionality be brought back in a future version?

(Just to explain our use case: We are a group of people of all ages, including very old ones. Some might prefer email, some will prefer messenger. In any case, there is no messenger that everyone has installed or accepts. Deltachat would be perfect as a tool. In addition, for many, it might lead the way to a more data sensitive and email-based messaging. This is also a principal motivation, at least for me. However, for the transition, and to be accepted, it has to be as easy as possible (e.g. the possibility and consequences of selecting / non-selecting the email based profile choice could be more highlighted). Even though I am tech affin I struggled a little bit. Cloning stuff, QR code exchanges etc. will exceed the capacities of many participants. That said - thank you for the potentially great tool and initiative)
