Calculate the color of a group based on the name

Actual behavior

The color of a group is calculated based on the key.

Expected behavior

The color of the group is calculated based on the name.

Explanation

Maybe others do it this way too. I use groups with only myself as folders with emojis as avatars for apps, links, or specific information, for example. Previously, these groups had the same background color in every profile. Now they look different in each one. Sure, that’s not a big deal, but I find it annoying. In my opinion, there’s no advantage in calculating the color using the keys.

you are probably using different versions of delta chat on different devices.

there was a change in color calculation in 2.12, but if all devices are 2.12 or newer, things should be in sync again

the change affected groups only

I think there’s a misunderstanding here. The group color is synchronized correctly if the latest versions are used, but that wasn’t what I was talking about. Many “folders” exist only in one profile, independent of other profiles. For example, in profile A, a link folder is green, while in profile B, it’s brown.

ah, i see.

no, this will probably not be changed again.

for the average user (who usually does not have several profiles), it seems better when the color is stable across renamings, so the current calculation based on the random group-identifier is there to stay.

however, you can set the same avatar on all profiles

yes, if you want the same avatar for different groups in different accounts then set an avatar image is what you want

it is pretty good that groups even if they have the same name they look different because that makes it harder for fishing and accidents
