Choosing email address (Metadata?)

If one is opting for traditional email, since some metadata is kept by server/mailerd, is it of great concern to use GMail? other than the potential difficulty of keeping OAuth (as happened with outlook addresses)?

or using more privacy-centric non-mainline providers that have IMAP? or if it is all equal, one could use without obscurity of address.

for example, posteo.net, mailbox.org, etc have better policies than “major” providers, but is it worth thinking about in ‘family & friends’ commuications, not high threat-level?

Chatmail might be preferable, but it is relatively new; I might prefer moving to that later–especially if I can figure a good & easy way to self-host (I have many ideas for how this might be made more accessible to the ‘educated novice’/non-coder, since I am no expert)–but for now have been using traditional email.

Other than push notifications (which I have not had trouble on iOS), is the metadata of any advantage in Chatmail? random addresses help, and ephermeal identities. but logs?

If you already have a working setup with Gmail or Posteo or Fastmail and you anyway use it for chatting only with family and friends and it works for you, you can just keep using it. All Delta Chat apps support multiple profiles, so you can always quickly create another profile quickly if you later want to get in contact with someone but don’t want to use your primary profile.

chatmail servers in the default setup keep logs only for 3 days in-memory.

Thanks. Ended up switching to chatmail for that recipient, as it did turn out that mobile notifications were unpredictable. wonder how to move messages from imap profile to chatmail profile…
