Keybase has a slash command /collapse, which minimizes web unfurls, pictures, and videos. They can be expanded again on a per item basis by clicking an arrow next to the message.
I’d like to see this in deltachat, it’s very useful. Particularly to hide distracting animated stickers or other infinitely looping gifs. In general it’s also just nice to have a way to condense the backlog into text for readability.
