When setting up new account in DC desktop, there is 3-dotted button in top right corner, which brings the single menu when pressed: ‘Proxy’.
That button is easy to miss; also, on creation of another account it is not clear, is proxy already set up or not.
Expected behavior
Replace 3-dot on the button with words ‘Proxy not set’ or ‘Proxy enabled’.
PS: Also there is a minor bug: when proxy is set, user may copy it’s URL by pressing copy button, but ‘protocol’ part is missing, so she will get back 127.0.0.1:..., even when socks5://127.0.0.1:... was entered.
the proxy settings are a little bit hidden on purpose on all platforms, to not clutter UI and raise questions for the many who never need them now know what they are.
but if one needs them, one will find the option. probably one knows even before, that one can enter a proxy setting, and the harder part is to find a working one. often you get them from friends.
also, there are very few elements at all during onboarding, so it is not hard to find if you know it exist.
but i agree, if a proxy setting is set, it should probably be shown directly in the UI (as on android/ios) and allow easy switching on/off or change the proxy (as it is needed, it will often needed to be changed)
So, I found it - and here I am, raising questions.
So that strategy not works.
Maybe you need to better hide that button!
Offtopic: if your are in a counry with restricted internet access - then HTTP and SOCKS proxies are very poor choice, and usually got banned very fast.
There are other tools, which use other, more DPI-resistant protocols, and act as local proxy.
