Dealing with second, old profile [will deactivating a profile lose messages]

Hi,

I have two profiles, both using classic email accounts.

(The second profile is new and has been created due to the upcoming removal of the option to “move emails to the Delta Chat folder”.)

The old profile has a lot of messages. I would like to keep it. But I do not need that profile else (so I would like to disable DC polling).

How to achieve that? Some questions on that:

(1) Can I just deactivate DC on that old profile but keep that profile to not loose the messages?

(2) OR: If I remove a profile an a mobile device but have a desktop DC with the same set of profiles: Can I safely remove an old profile on the mobile device but keep that on the desktop DC?

You can disable polling individual profiles on ArcaneChat, but not on Delta Chat so far. If you have only two profiles, Delta Chat supports selecting to enable only one of them, though:

On mobiles, you can untick a profile to stop polling it (for example in case of a host error). I could not find such an option on Desktop. I have a feeling this makes it impossible to create another profile on a backup host while the primary is down and spinning in infinite loop. A workaround might be to export and delete each existing profile on the misbehaving host, and then import them back later, but I’m not sure whether this could carry any ill side effects.

After backing up and migrating a profile to a new device, you can remove it from the old device and keep using it on the new one.
