Delete media files and preserve message

if we like to delete media files we delete the hole message which contains the media file.
It would be cool if the message would be preserved and deleted media files would be marked with a placeholder as “deleted”

Expected behavior Thunderbird an other email programs have the ability to remove/detach attachments (images, files, etc) from a message. Maybe we can choose also for locally or on the server?
