Currently, I want to block a contact. To do this, I need to open our chat, tap on their profile picture, go into the settings menu, and find the option to block the contact. Normally, this works fine. However, whenever I receive a certain email that I cannot open—it crashes the app as soon as I try—I have to delete it to restore normal function. The issue is that this spam email may keep coming every now and then. Since I can’t open it, I can’t block the sender either, and I can only keep deleting it. Therefore, I think it would be helpful if there were a way to long-press an email on the main interface to directly view the sender’s contact information. That way, I could block the spam sender without having to open the email. Thank you very much.
Could you please state the platform and version of your app?
Is blocking unencrypted messages or setting up a chatmail account an option for you?
Also, could you perhaps open a separate topic to help debug why that message is causing Delta Chat to crash? (Where we could discuss your client logs, dmesg-logcat, minimized reproduction of a similar message, etc)
Thank you very much. I’m using the Android version 2.49.0. The issue is caused by an unencrypted email—specifically, a company’s advertising email that seems to send a new promotion roughly every two weeks. I’d like to block it directly.
My thought on implementing a feature to block contacts without opening the email is this: while achieving 100% compatibility with HTML emails may take a long time, the approach of “blocking contacts without opening the email” can significantly improve the overall usability of Delta Chat itself.
When new advertising emails come in, I’ll start a new thread to provide further feedback on related issues.
