Every subject a new chat?

Hello !
I use DeltaTouch for Ubuntu Touch and I Update
sadly from 1.16.2 (the last before) to 2.9.0 few days ago.

And in the past, every recognized user have a “channe”
who its messages arrive.

With the update, the new messages are not more listet
under the sendes-email, they are listet
with every subject of an email.

I got so many messages with different subjects
that I am crying, not i have hunderts of chats
and lost any overview.

I will back the old mode or the possibility
to switch this behavior off.

This is so an good email program in the past
for me, to handle only a few email-senders
and now it is chaos !!!

And i have to delete each single chat manually, there
is no way to mark all and delete with one click.

The function, to auto delete after, for example one day" does
not help, cause the messages under the subject are deleted,
but the subject is still exist.
Awful chaos !

Can you change this, please
or make a switch to get back, the old way
so sort new messages to a sender email, pease !

Best Regards,
The tier

I recently posted a suggestion for how to implement a subject in a 1:1 chat with non-DC contacts without changing the UI. Unfortunately, the inability to change the subject in a 1:1 chat was already a problem before the update.

I hate emails that are grouped together in threads.
It’s great when the boss of the company specifies a topic/subject for a discussion via email and all employees stick to it.
But in everyday life, it’s just annoying.

I receive emails that I have to read in DeltaChat, which have a timestamp in the subject line.
I have to do this because on Ubuntu Touch, DeltaChat is the ONLY email program that can display images in the message immediately!

If only I could at least select and delete them all at once… but as it is, I have hundreds of new messages every day and can’t even get rid of them automatically!

I’m really desperate!

Do the created chats have only two members (you and the sender)? Members from a single sender should arrive into 1:1 chat with the sender. Do you by chance use an alias and there is a third member that is your alias address?

it is a little bit difficult to understand you, cause I let bing translate it to german.

Again, in the past I have three email-Sender which send automatic data with pictures, the subject is automatic generated with time-stamp, i can’t change !

With version 1.16.2 all was fine, new messages from three senders in
three chats.
With the new update I got hundreds of new chats, every timestamps a new one.
That’s the first annoyance now.

The second annoyance is, that I can’t mark all chats and delete,
i have to made is one by one and I can’t be so quick, as sometimes
new arrived.

I will switch off this behavior, so generate a new chat-entry
in fact of a new topic / subject of an email - i will back,
that one sender has its own chat, regardless of which
subject he enters.

And how can I delete these hundreds chats.

by the way, newer again was a new email
sorted to his sender !

and yes, there are only me and the sender for each chat

Man kann hier auch Deutsch reden, es gibt sogar

So you get mails from three senders, and the subjects are all different as they contain timestamps. These used to arrive in three one-on-one chats, one chat for each sender. Now you have one chat per subject. This means you have hundreds of chats which you want to mass-delete. I don’t know how to do that, sorry.

by the way, newer again was a new email
sorted to his sender !

I think you mean that since you last posted, a new e-mail came in and was filed in a chat by sender, not by subject. That is, it is back to normal. That is good! I don’t know what went wrong, though.

nope.
NOTHING is normal again, I still get hundred of new
chats with different (of cause) Subjects !
NONE of them are filled in the chat of the sender !!!
IT IS NOT GOOD !
IT IS AWFUL !

IF THE DEVELOPER DO NOT CHANGE THIS BEHAVIOR,
or make is stich-able,
BACK TO THE OLD BEHAVIOR, DELTA CHAT IS NOT
MORE UNUSABLE !

If you can provide an example of .eml file downloaded with e.g. Thunderbird from the mailbox and send it to me (e.g. as a direct message) I can look why it is now assigned differently.

Maybe the message is recognized as a mailing list? If new chats are groups, how many members are there, only 2 or 3?

Hello and thank you for your offer.
I don’t find the button to send you a pm ?
the destination user is a registered member
also I made a group .. but it sill come as
chat with single topic. This is a chat with 2 members.
I have a *.eml ready to send .. aim ?

It’s probably because your forum account is too young, or have to few posts.
As a workaround, you can share here your (temporary) DC account as invite link.

I made a fix for this kind of messages so they will be assigned to 1:1 chats instead of groups once it is merged: fix: do not create a group if the sender includes self in the To field by link2xt · Pull Request #7133 · chatmail/core · GitHub

you are great … thank you very much !
two questions:

  1. why theses behavior changed from 1.16.2 (the last before) to 2.9.0 ?
  2. when will the next update for Ubuntu Touch / Open Store be available ?

And many thanks for your help and work !!!

Message to chat assignment code has been changed a lot and this corner case was overlooked because it was not tested. This kind of messages where the sender puts self address in the To field and places actual recipients in Bcc is not common.

The fix will be in 2.12.0 once it is released.
