Force E2EE and Own Server / User Onboarding?

I stumbled across this, and I think this is what I have been looking for, for a long time. I shouldn’t find the following:

  • in my app it says “e2ee preferred”. Can I not “force” e2ee?
  • Is there a step-by-step guide on how2 setup our own server (with automatic user registration)?

Regards, Guy

edit: One mor question:

  • I imagine it’s easy to register people via a qr-code and have them start a chat. But how Can I make sure, this (otherwise anonymous) contact belongs to a data set on my side. Is there a way to share a QR code with a registration number baked in or something, so on my side I can know, how the person that is writing in this chat is really supposed to be linked to an account on my side?

hi @LazyGuy21No - first of all, welcome aboard!

the option will be removed in the next release. e2ee is now done whenever possible, which is always in case of chatmail servers

a guide is present at GitHub - chatmail/relay: chatmail service deployment scripts and docs
high-level information are at https://chatmail.at

not sure if there is a dedicated forum already, so if in doubt, continue asking here

usually, in practise, there is just enough context. Delta Chat is a private messenger, so sharing QR codes to a large audience is not recommended anyways.
but if you need additional clarity, you can create an empty group, write a note there, and share the group’s QR code from the group profile
