Functions for long term use [protect the last few messages and starred ones from cleanup]

As described in many other discussions here the pure core of the features necessary for long term usage of DC at local device:

  • limit number of messages per chat (X) (user setting)
  • introduce user function to mark messages with star(s) (still existing in database)
  • delete oldest messages when number of messages gets > X when new message arrives for dedicated chat (but never delete starred ones).

option:

  • manual possibility to start housekeeping function (This is now (v1.8.1 android) only possible by exporting backup).

much simpler, as being the gist of Delta Chat, we meanwhile have options to allow long term use, proven to let Delta Chat run for many years :slight_smile:

FAQ - What happens if I turn on “Delete Messages from Device”?

I’m back again :slight_smile:

I know the new options by deleting messages by time but this a) deletes rare used chats even if You don’t want to and b) max time range of 1 year isn’t enough for long term use.

So I see this issue not as solved :frowning:

A different issue, but I would also welcome settings for cleaning up multimedia much sooner than text.
