The time has come for a new Desktop Release! Help us find the most
annoying bugs so we can make sure this update is ready to be released on
the website and in stores.
Release Highlights
We moved nearly all communication with our core library to jsonrpc, which should remove the micro stutters, that the desktop sometimes had (because most of the calls were blocking, and in electron world that unfortunately meant that when the main process blocked the ui got frozen too, resulting in the interface freezing or feeling laggy)
Clear chat history Search for Messages in chat jump down button a recently seen indicator many smaller bugfixes fixes and improvements
There are some known bugs (especially with the message list this time, update: message bugs should be fixed now), so please look at the issues above first before filing a new duplicated one, and instead upvote (react with ) or comment that you can reproduce the issue.
Important: please backup your current setup (or most important accounts)
before upgrading in order to be safe when trying test-releases. You can
find this option under Settings > Chats and Media > Backup.
1- jump down button does not work properly: I pressed it the first time and the app blocked for several seconds; then I pressed again and it seems worked but I opened another chat and returned to the first and I found the messages like before scrolling.
This happens when the second chat I enter is without messages.
2- when i put the mouse pointer on the tray icon the message is “icon”.
I can second @anon43200645 's first item above and add to it that upon launching DeltaChat for Linux (AppImage) sometimes the open chat scrolls automatically, seemingly from the top of my history all the way to the current item. This takes a while for it to finish and I generally quit the app and re-open.
Hello ,
so far version 1.33.1 (macOS) is running without any problems. But I’ve noticed two things that I’m not sure if they are intended:
Contrary to what is described in the changelog, the tray icon is not activated by default for me. Maybe this is only in the macOS version since it doesn’t actually make any sense there?
The jump button still has two arrows. According to the changelog it should only be one. Could this also be a special feature of the macOS version, because there are also two arrows in DC-iOS?
one arrow means you jump the the message you jumped from (when clicking on a quote), two arrows mean jump to bottom.
maybe you already set it to false in the past, or it’s only applied on new installations.
you could delete the minimizeToTray key in ~/Library/Application\ Support/DeltaChat/config.json
So as @r10s already posted above, 1.33.1 is out for testing.
We tried to completely fix the message list bugs, added grouping of notifications and more.
But I found a new bug that would be a blocker (for releasing 1.34) if it happens more often. The bug is that sometimes delta chat’s internal events stop working, which makes the desktop feel like it’s frozen. You can still interact with it (change chat, browse messages, and so on), but everything that depends on those events will be stuck/frozen (unread count won’t disappear when you read messages, sent messages still show the pending circle animation instead of switching to a checkmark once the message is sent, and so on): Sometimes events stop working · Issue #2992 · deltachat/deltachat-desktop · GitHub
So please report it when you encounter this or any similar crashing or freezing bug.
You’re right, the settings from the previous installation were still there. I deleted them and after a fresh install the tray icon is shown by default.
Is it actually possible to send animated stickers with the new version?
Or how does DC tell the difference between GIFs with no background and GIF stickers?
So far I have not been able to import a such a GIF into the sticker menu.
The new test version is out for testing 1.33.2, the “USP” of this version is that we fixed the bug that made deltachat use 100% CPU. If you don’t find any blockers we’ll release this version as 1.34 to the website and stores.
Happy testing!
