Help testing the upcoming v1.53.x release

The time has come for a new Desktop Release! :tada: Help us find the most
annoying bugs so we can make sure this update is ready to be released on
the website and in stores. :muscle:

Besides many bug fixes we added some new features, like activate mentions in muted chats, more shortcuts and several refactorings and updates under the hood.

Is this the correct link? It doesn’t say much.

Anyway, downloading. Thank you very much!

no, but here is the correct link: deltachat-desktop/CHANGELOG.md at main · deltachat/deltachat-desktop · GitHub

Thank you! I installed this version on Ubuntu (AMD deb) and so far so good.

enable notifications on mentions in muted chats

By “mentions” do you really mean mentions like @ndh @Simon  or do you mean “replies”?

implement experimental setting: content protection

Should this be in Settings > Advanced > Experimental features? I can’t find it. (I guess I don’t have the “tauri version”, but (sorry!) what is the tauri version?

In any case, what does it do?

what is the tauri version?

tauri version is a special new version that is not released yet: deltachat-desktop/packages/target-tauri at main · deltachat/deltachat-desktop · GitHub

nothing to worry about for normal users for now.

content protection

It is called “Screen Security” in app.

it means that in muted groups you still get notifications when someone reacts or replies to your messages. real mentions “@username” don’t exist yet, but we have plans for that also.

This is not new from this release, but if there isn’t an issue about it I can create it: on Ubuntu, in the GNOME’s activity overview, DeltaChat appear with 3 notifications, but then I go to the app and I can’t find any notification there. Are they out of sync or are the three notifications in the app not visible / not evident? Or does it mean that I have three DeltaChat windows/instances open, which as far as I can tell I don’t have?

Is there also an unread badge on your account in the account list on the left side in the delta chat app?

Yeah, ok, I guess I had pending emoji reactions, or something. I clicked the unread badge and all is good now. The number in the desktop overview and in the Delta Chat app were different (3-2), but I will pay more attention if I run in a similar situation again. Sorry for the noise!

I have got more “out of sync” situations where the GNOME’s activity overview says there is one notification, my badge shows none, and clicking the badge or the most recent topics won’t solve the dissonance.

I’m pretty sure it is related to emoji reactions. If they are added to recent/ongoing conversations, they will get away because you visit these topics anyway, but… can it be that if someone adds an emoji reaction to an older topic then there is no easy way to see it, and this is when notifications get out of sync?

Another possibility is desktop-mobile out of sync, since I’m using both (Android on mobile).
