How to become mutual contacts from meeting in a group

Hi Peeps, I think this must be obvious to you all but I can’t see the mechanism despite having done similar for a family group.
I’m trying to create a group to invite people in to chat, none previously know each other, once they’re a member of the group, if some of those people wish to privately chat with a single other member, how do they connect without sharing a contact link to the whole group? I can’t remember how I achieved this with family.

Just open group description, click on any member in a list, select Send message.
