How to configure a DC profile with a mail address on a regular Mailserver like a profile on a chatmail server

A Chatmail relay server is the best and the most secure way to use Delta Chat, i know, but me and my friends will not be able to install one soon.

With our domain we can defined as many Email addresses for us as we nee and use the Mail server of our hoster.

Now we want to configure our DC profiles with this Mail addresses so that the profiles are more or less setup with the same sett of features profiles have on a chatmail relay server.

Can you give as a checklist how to configure a DC profile for this cause?

Settings > Chat and Media > Delete Messages from Server > YES - after download

what else ?

Actually, you can set delete-on-download inside Deltachat, and unset it for multi-device profiles; it does not matter if you use Chatmail or not.

The main differences between a Chatmail server and any old mail server are:

  1. Chatmail servers will not relay unencrypted mails.
  2. Chatmail servers are a bit faster.
  3. Chatmail servers have some limits on message size, how long a message or an unused account lasts before autodeletion, etc. . These are designed to make Chatmail servers easy to run.

I don’t know if you can configure an account on your server to check for Autocrypt headers and drop all unencrypted messages. But that would help ensure your connections are always encrypted.

You know that Chatmail servers usually allow anyone to create an account for free, right? You are encouraged to make accounts on multiple other servers, because means that if a server goes down you can keep talking.
