How to migrate from WhatsApp

Done this last month. ALL you need is a VOIP number. Had a couple free from Sipgate back in the days and still active cos I’ve kept some credit in them.

I’ve taken the gamble of switching off WhatsApp. Don’t use WA for work so free in that aspect. Then.. Switched my personal WA profile to business, cos standard can’t take landline numbers, and can’t do auto reply. Then changed number to a sipgate landline, received confirmation code via phone call (you need to setup your sip/VOIP number on a client in your phone of course), then set auto reply WHEN AWAY > ALWAYS to all messages with my new Delta Chat link.

When you change your number, WA will show your contacts your new number and a way to contact you. But I just keep the WA business on a spare phone and checking it every now and then.

Job done :tada::tada:

In many countries you can “park” a phone number for a reduced fee if you are not currently using it but don’t want it re-assigned.

My intent was to clear my main mobile number from WA database while keeping my contacts aware of the change. Seems to have worked in that way.
