I would like to have user friendly polls without having to trust a bot.

this - and much more! - is meanwhile possible via apps that you can send to a chat:
to use apps, use the Paperclip menu / Apps:
search the desired app, here, Poll:
hit Add to chat and then configure your poll (on desktop, this is possible after sending only, on android/iOS, this is possible in draft mode)
