Just a quick note of encouragement to the programmers

Dear all, I really like Delta Chat. The fact that it’s de-centralised makes it much superior to any other messenger I know.

The only other messenger I use is Signal. Edward Snowden recommended it, so it should be OK. But Signal has a central server, so the NSA will – at the very least – conveniently analyse traffic.

How about getting Snowden to endorse you? If he hasn’t already. I only know of him endorsing Signal.

Thank you for your valuable work!

Hi @marcf

Yes, Delta Chat is very nice indeed, and it has many more features/advantages which Signal doesn’t have besides being decentralized, including multi-account support, anonymous registration, and in-chat offline-first apps. I also add my thanks to all the developers and contributors for their work!

I can’t speak on behalf of the developers, but in my opinion I don’t think that getting Snowden to endorse Delta Chat is something which is necessary or even desirable. Delta Chat follows an organic growth strategy via word-of-mouth instead of pursuing growth spikes due to marketing campaigns or celebrity endorsements, and I agree with this approach.

We can thank Snowden for his past contributions to the public knowledge and raising awareness of illegal mass surveillance and privacy-related topics, but I also think he has lost relevance in current spheres of public discussion today.

If Snowden decides to use Delta Chat and likes it enough to endorse it, I wouldn’t be opposed to that, but this is the same guy who tweeted a few years ago “email is a fundamentally insecure protocol that, in 2019, can and should be abandoned for the purposes of any meaningful communication”, so he’s probably not the ideal poster boy for Delta Chat anyway…

I don’t think Delta Chat should be chasing endorsements from Snowden or any other celebrities. The best person to promote Delta Chat is you! Help your friends and family to get started! Tell your community!
