Links for webxdc apps in DC-Desktop

Expected behavior

Like in DC-Android, users can link a webxdc app to the desktop.

Actual behavior

It is not possible to create a desktop link for a webxdc app.

Explanation

I think this would be a useful feature to launch frequently used apps directly. It would also bring DC-Desktop up to par with DC-Android and DC-iOS.

I wonder if this can work, at least for similar tasks in Desktop like opening a mailto or invite link with Delta Chat in my system it really takes a while until the action appears in the DC UI, so there seems to be some problem or wrong handling of things and we need first to fix that so that opening invite links, mailto, apps shortcuts and launching the app a second time in general, is more fast otherwise this would defeat the point of shortcuts for fast access that feels like opening native apps

Yeah, granted I’m using a Pinephone and haven’t done much with apps, but I’ve found some to be problematically slow in DeltaTouch. And the actual chat seems to be getting slower as I accumulate chat history.

There aren’t lots of little game apps on mobile Linux, and this, surprisingly, seems to be a significant adoption blocker.

If the mail client and the WebXDC app were separate but could interoperate:

  • apps other than Deltachat would use WebXDC apps
  • some people would install only one
