I think a mastodon channel for occasional release updates would be super awesome! 
Hashtag #deltachat unfortunately shows super empty results.

you can use the rss-feed https://delta.chat/feed.xml for this purpose
(in fact, some Friendica users also used this for a #deltachat channel there)
We could just create a mastodon account and enable crossposter 
not a lot of work. If we enable e-mail notifications on the account, we would also be notified at interactions and could react to them.

There is a semi-official https://chaos.social/@delta/ account now. It does not have release updates though.
