Are MDN (read-receipts, indicated by double check marks) sent back only to the “used for sending” relay rather than to all propagated relays?
My profile uses two relays. Recently, MDN stopped coming, or as far as I could tell, there were only one check mark instead of the usual two. However I did get all the responses to messages I sent, so everything seemed to work except for the delivery notifications.
That went on for days until I had the idea to switch which relay is “used for sending”. Since the switch, the delivery notifications were back.
So how is this possible? Even if one relay was malfunctioning, which I’m not sure it was, shouldn’t the delivery notifications have arrived through the better relay, just like the regular messages did?
From the above link, summary: my friend’s macOS did not auto-upgrade the DC client but his phone did. When he replied from the older client on laptop I stopped getting MDNs, but of course worked from mobile newest client. He upgraded his macOS DC client manually and then things started working normally again between us. $0.02 hth
Yes I’m sure. It was the same problem in two conversations, I ask them both and they said they didn’t change anything and they saw double check marks on my messages. And it correlated perfectly when I tried switching “used for sedding” back and forth when messaging.
But it’s been confirmed now that they only go to one relay.
