Notification popups, but no sound

Expected behavior

When a message arrives in a chat there is a popup and sound

Actual behavior

When a message arrives in a chat there is a popup and NO sound

Steps to reproduce the problem

Until just before this weekend, when a message arrives a sound was played on my iPhone, now it does no longer do that. I’m guessing this is introduced in one of the latest updates, but I’m not sure.

The popup notification does arrive, so it’s not a matter of delayed notifications or anything, I see them arrive, but without sound.

What I tried

  • Signal and whatsapp notifications do make sound (so no hardware iphone problem or muted).
  • There is no separate volume control for DC, so it should arrive identical as Signal/Whatsapp
  • I removed my account and re-added it, no difference.
  • I remove DC and re-added it, no difference.
  • I rebooted multiple times and no difference.
  • Checked the notification permissions and they are fine (else the popup would not appear either).
  • I created a new account on the nine-something server, and the same behaviour, no sound.

Any suggestions are welcome!

indeed, there was a bug in the last release, we fixed that at use default notification sound by r10s · Pull Request #2713 · deltachat/deltachat-ios · GitHub - and i will do a new release as soon as possible

seems all devs and testers before, me included, had notification sound muted - so, thanks a looooot for reporting!

Thanks a lot. I monitored the forum a couple days and it drove me crazy there was nobody else.

(The sound makes it vibrate on the apple watch, and that was broken.)
