Sometimes i need to send high quality images to my contacts, but can’t manage to do that directly. I resort to archiving them, and then sending as archive. It is quite inconvenient. It would be nice to have option to send media as is, when needed.
an option to send media without re-compresion is already implemented, just sent them as “File”:
the image or video is also sent with its original metadata then, which may be important for documentation purposes. cmp. FAQ - Delta Chat
it was already discussed, that it is harder to discover than a direct “switch” in the primary UI. but for the vast majority, removing metadata and smaller image sizes is what’s desired, without even knowing that, also as delta chat supports much worse networks as many other messengers. in general, we regard it as fine when things are a little harder for the professionals or nerds, if this results in clean and simple UI for the many.
