Expected behavior

Ability to also send original photos without compression

Actual behavior

It’s currently only possible currently, to configure “Balanced” or “Worse quality, small size” quality.

It would be great to have the ability, to have an option to set “Outging Media Quality” to “Original / Uncompressed”.

fyi; I compared the picture quality between Signal and Delta Chat, and Delta is worse than Signals “high quality”…

So, when i want to share an uncompressed photo in original quality, i now have to upload them elsewhere and create external sharing links and send those instead, very cumbersome…

this is no longer needed. since the last release, there is an option to send images uncompressed, use “Attach / File” to preserve quality and metadata:

android/desktop have a similar option.

this is a bit hidden, and is known only by ppl searching for it or read the help. however, in general, we are sceptical to offer an “always high quality” option, as this would affect the overall traffic and ecosystem, is not a sender-only choice - and tradeoffs are not always seen.
and we’re talking about about up to 10 times or even 100 times larger traffic here, for one recipient.

the quality as such, we can talk about it. last time we checked, it was equal to what telegram is using, which is not that bad for most images.

It’s a pity that you can’t select multiple files to send without compression.

Yea, i also stumbled into that. It’s cumbersome;

In practice, you just can’t use Delta Chat to send original uncompressed photos. Except if it’s a “once in a while” kind of thing - which i imagine most people won’t use / bother with anyway as they are not even aware.

So, what it comes down to in the end is: find another App/service if you regularly want to share original uncompressed photos.
