Provide a means to rename a group or channel in your roster similarly to how you can change the nick of a user contact to be displayed with higher priority.
This is not the same as correcting the group name in the settings, because such edit will be seen by all other members.
this makes the app more complicated if suddenly you have two different names one local and another remote for groups and channels, you might also accidentally change the wrong name etc.
One real world problem that this would solve is that if you are consuming notifications via text to speech, the name of most groups will sound awful and you can’t do anything about it, while solving usernames is already possible.

we’re getting quite some feedback for these parts; that is better and more coherent solved by the text-to-speech-engines themselves, eg. on iOS at “Settings / Accessibility / VoiceOver / Speech / Pronunciations”:
If you joined a sufficient amount of groups on a platform supporting public ones, you would realize how useful day to day it is to rename groups so they won’t clash, be more meaningful than how the founding members have decided it to be named, or maybe even let the initial part of the name that fits on your screen be useful to discriminate between them.
The last one is even more jarring, as unlike some other messengers, DC Desktop does not support dragging the split between the chat group list and the timeline or showing a long group name upon hovering.
