hi, you probably already noticed there is a PixelSocial webxdc app in the store, with it you can have your very own private e2ee social network with a group of family and friends, but there is also public instances via Delta Chat bot! you can peek at it without any login required, fully anonymous, there are two instances:
Interesting!
So it can exist within a group chat, a rich-media analogue to Live Chat?
Does the social network go away if all in group uninstall? The public instance has public post history, so where is that stored that it is sent to all who add to the app? Does such history also apply to group chats? this would be unlike Live Chat (when all close the app history is gone)
the public instance is special, it is host by a bot, the bot takes care to send the history to new users, if you use the app normally in a group, only the people inside the group have the data, if everyone deletes the app, the data is gone, the data and the PixelSocial network itself lives only in the devices of the members of the group, there is no server or 3rd party involved
the more direct analogue would be a Facebook group (or Lemmy/Reddit community) where there are discussions organized by threads/topics and threads are sorted by recent activity, this complements well the flat timeline of the group chat, for the people/communities that need more thread/topic based parallel discussions
interesting!
any planned capacity for posting an album (4 photos, like X etc), or commenting with photo upload.
the main problem is the image size, sending too many images in a single payload/email could be problematic, could be worked around sending every image individually in a payload and then putting things together on the receiver side
commenting with a single image could be done, yep
yeah- use case in my mind would be posting a passage from a book- sometimes spans a few pages. multi image would be one way, but commenting works just as well- Op could follow up with 2nd image in comment
I like this webxdc! ![]()
The current avatar is randomly generated. Is it possible to use the avatar from my DeltaChat account instead?
it is not possible, the app doesn’t focus on user profiles and ego, users don’t have a profile or account, a name and random avatar is used to be able to make sense of a conversation/discussion on threads, but the focus is on the actual content and topics/posts and not so much around your identity, you should just forget about yourself and focus in interacting and exchanging with other people in the topics you are interested in!
You’re right—live in the moment. ![]()
Are there any plans to implement different themes/skins to PixelSocial? I think the app is neat, but it’s pixelated interface is hard on my eyes.
not right now, but you could modify it to your taste changing some CSS rules and use that in your chats:

I adjusted this to a non-pixel style with AI – feel free to try it.
hi @io4w5 for implementing this see this: Crowd-funding: Add image support to PixelSocial comments
I’m a huge fan of PixelSocial! I used AI to give it a little tweak, and it’s working well. Come and check it out! ![]()

This version of Pixel Social is very nice. Much better than the pixelated version.
Concerning Pixel Social, before starting to use it with my friends, I would like to know something.
If I share Pixel Social with a group, everyone in the group can post to it. But, if a new person enters the group, this person will not see the Pixel Social instance, because new entrants don’t get access to old messages.
What should I do if I want new group members to be able to post to the Pixel Social instance of the group?
Thanks!
hi @imysl0 it is a bit raw, needs some enhancements but some of the features (mainly the zooming of images) I could try to integrate it in the main PixelSocial, for sending multiple images, the way it is done by the AI is not good, would be better to do something like mastodon with a mosaic/gallery built, not making the post super large with every image vertically put below each other
what AI did you use to make the changes???
That’s great! Looking forward to it.
I’m using Lingma from Alibaba, whose official website is 下载和安装-通义灵码. Its PRO version is free for a limited time for individual users. Currently, it supports Windows and macOS but does not support Linux yet.
Alibaba also offers Qoder, which is equally good. Its official website is https://qoder.com/, and it supports Linux, Windows, and macOS.
It seems both of them allow customizing the models used, but I haven’t tried that yet — I just use the default ones directly.
Great!
