The notion of a read-only mailing list and how forums like this one are counted as that drives me crazy. If I get emails I wanna respond to them. That is the only reason for all my mental health issues. My therapist were like “Why are you so cray cray?” and I was like “It all started when I got an email I couldn’t reply to”.
Please make it so I can reply to mailing lists and comments on GitHub and this forum. They’re not news letters, they are emails.
Maybe your assumption that email should always be bi-directional is wrong?
Also, you can follow forum topics (and also github stuff) via RSS. RSS not allows you to reply, so no more reasons to cray cray…
This email that you just sent via Discourse literally says “reply to this email to respond” and same goes for comments on GitHub. But Delta Chat prevents that and hides the reply box.
There’s no need for you to be a patronizing jerk out to hurt people and make them cry. I already use a RSS reader to read email newsletters and have them blocked in Delta Chat. (And more nuanced blocking in Delta Chat would be really great to support that;I get false positives since some senders send newsletters from an address they also use for conversation, and I get false negatives since other senders, like my monthly VPS bill/invoice, constantly generate new addresses and topics.)
But some mailing lists are bidirectional. They just are! Including this one that you are literally sending via, right now! And trying to gaslight people into believing that they aren’t is not helping their mental health situation.
Because I used Delta Chat before it introduced this block and being able to type a quick reply to some pull request comment or forum question was really convenient. I hate WWW and “browser”. I love email!

There are some details about how GitHub mailing lists look like:
Mailing lists were indeed added as a chat type in core 1.51 released in 2021 and they show up as read only if there is no List-Post header. Possibility of quoting a single message was added in 1.47 a bit earlier. So it was probably possible to quote-reply a particular message that comes from notifications@github.com, but then it also was sent to notifications@github.com while to make it an actual reply we need to reply to the Reply-To of the quoted message. So replying to GitHub threads from Delta Chat likely never worked.
