The filename filter of the image upload picker is excluding them. The photo is not rendered in the timeline when attached as a file either, unlike webp, webm (VP9), png or jpeg that does show in a player. An AV1 video encapsulated in webm container does show up after attaching as a file (does not show if encapsulated in mkv).

Previously solved questions about webp
Can the system be updated to support images in the .webp format? Or would it be possible to extend support to include a wider range of image formats altogether?

When I drag a .webp file into the chat window, it displays normally, but I am unable to add it through manual selection. Perhaps the filtering conditions for image files in the window could be adjusted.

Probably. But the uploading file extension filter and the Apps & Media filter would also need to be updated.
