well, if really some of your friends or otherwise trusted persons (this is what Delta Chat is designed for) does the joke to call themself “Me”, you can already today go to their profile and set another name.
this also prevents comparable “attacks” from that person in the future
just rolling releases make it easier to set custom names for contacts, btw, and we are reconsidering that part from time to time, eg. by prefixing unrevised names by ~[1] - however, as said, as being a private messenger, where no one cannot “just so” contact you, this has to be weighted against other goals and priorities carefully. posts as yours count to that
Cool feature, reminds me of custom names in Telegram or good old phone books (worst thing was naming someone “don’t pick up,” but I wasn’t that mean).
Let me give you some context. I’ve been in the Matrix.org ecosystem for about 5 years, but I started feeling like it’s heading in the wrong direction, while Delta really came alive to me and frens with the introduction of chatmail.
There, when someone replies to your message, it shows your nickname. Seems like a tiny detail, but damn, I got so used to it.
I get that you can unlearn habits just as easily as you learn them, but this one kind of sticks out to me.
