The "Add members" dialog could feel more empowering and secure with some tweaks

I noticed that it’s no longer possible to search a concrete relay email in the “Add members” dialog. The same seems to be the case for the “Forward to…” dialog.

I realized that I often see one name used by multiple users, and in those dialogs sometimes I find myself closing the dialog again, then checking a profile, and clumsily going back and forth to build confidence about the right choice.

I think it would be nice if there was some sort of feature for these dialogs where I pick a user, that empower me to understand better who I am picking.

  • For example, one way to do that might be to add a long press (for touch) and right click (for mouse) option to open up the profile for any entry listed, without actually closing the underlying dialog of target choices.

Then I could return to the choices after examining a user, with exactly the same scroll position in the target list, once I’m sure I got the right user.

  • Perhaps another way might be to bring back the search using email, where any of a user’s relays should bring up the user.

I realize most users won’t find this helpful though, so I think this would be less universally helpful, but it would I assume be an easy change and so obscure to find that I don’t see how beginner users would be distracted by it.

  • Probably there’s some other idea I haven’t thought of yet. Feel free to chime in if you’re reading this and you have one!

that sounds good, if it is not too complex, we can consider going for that - esp. as it is similarly already possible to open profile from member-list or new-chat-list.

until then, esp. for casual readers, note that all contacts lists are sorted by recently-seen, which is usually a good hint, if one was duplicate contacts with same name, same given name, and avatar
