The life-changing magic of WKD

false, it is totally the same:

  1. in the past you would get a OPENPGP4FPR data, there was no other option than pasting from clipboard in the QR scanner, you can’t click that links in any chat app
  2. now you can keep doing the same and pasting the invite links form the clipboard instead of clicking them, it is just a commodity, it is up to you to use it or not, you can keep doing the same and instead copy the links and paste from clipboard like in the past, or scan the QR instead of opening any link, LIKE IN THE PAST

for the web, ex. in your contact page in some website, you could distribute the old link instead the new ones, the old link is still available when you open the i.delta.chat link in the “open chat” button, but you can as well manually re-create them it is simple as already explained above, the i.delta.chat is a fancy way of representing the OPENPGP4FPR link so it gets clickable since when you share a OPENPGP4FPR link in whatsapp, signal, telegram or social media posts, they are not made clickable :frowning:

NOTE: I am also not a fan of the i.delta.chat links, it is particularly bad with 3rd party clients like my ArcaneChat client, then the link is i.delta.chat, and as a 3rd party client you need to get in contact with Delta Chat developers and ask them to add your client as supporting to open i.delta.chat otherwise the “can this app open this link” authorization process from google will not work, but generating the old data as in the past doesn’t make it easier to use, nor solve any problem, the problem is that 3rd party clients can’t benefit easily of the advantages of the i.delta.chat link

NOTE 2: ah btw, when governments block delta chat then the invite links can’t be opened at all, this is a problem when people share the links in social media, because there the links are often open directly in the browser (or internal webview in case of apps) instead of opening the system apps, and then loading fails, so then they need to discover the old way of copy+paste the link in the QR scanner manually
