Foreword: before anyone points this out. Yes, I am aware that scammers like to take people off the dating apps, and into chat somewhere else. I’ve had scammers try that with me. The way I present the move to a different application to my dating prospects is always optional. They can say “no,” and I honor their choice. Some have said no. No biggie. I have to say that most have agreed to the move somewhere else.
Why do I want to move somewhere else? Simple: most other chat applications are available on a laptop. I’d rather type on a mechanical keyboard than use my phone’s virtual keyboard. Also, most dating apps are buggy. Some regularly swallow notifications. Some just won’t allow the regular emojis, etc.
Right now, I’m thinking Delta Chat is the best chatting application for this purpose. Why? Because of the possibility for multiple profiles. You can create a profile for chatting with a dating prospect, and if things don’t work out, you can just delete the profile, This happened to me yesterday. I connected with someone, and eventually discovered that we were incompatible. I wished them good luck and deleted my profile. End of story. Even if they wanted to, they would be unable to use another account/device to try to contact me. The profile is gone.
I’ve never had someone try to contact me after I passed on them, but there are cuckoo birds out there. True story: I’ve been on a date with a novice scammer. 
Nothing bad happened, but still. All this to say, that the ability to create a profile just to talk to one individual is invaluable when things don’t work out and you just want to end it right there and then.
Could it be better? Yes, it could.
- It would be nice to have the ability to have user ids attached to dating profiles like in Signal. The fact of the matter is that dating apps often severely limit the size of a dating profile, and links are ugly. (The problem with Signal is that it does not allow multiple profiles. If your id is compromised, you need a new one.)
- It would be nice to be able to clone profiles. I could have a template profile for dating, and clone it when I have a new contact. This way I wouldn’t have to reupload a profile pic, and a bio every time I meet someone new.
- It would also be nice to be able to give a nickname visible only to me to a profile. The user would see my username, but I’d see the nick on my side.
