There is this feature to save stuff in “Saved Messages”. However, I cannot find these messages on my mail server. Where are they stored? If they are stored locally, then how can I access them remotely? I would like to have them on my mail server in a folder e.g. called “Saved Messages” to be clear. Where are they stored now?
As “Saved Message” are synced, they can become very handy for transferring data between devices
Okay, let me rephrase my question, because this was not an answer to my question. My question is this: “Where are the Saved Messages located on the disk, on the server, etc? Where are the FILES THEMSELVES so that I can find them OUTSIDE the Delta Chat app?” I hope this is now clear… The normal messages are on the server as emails. I cannot find the SAVED MESSAGES anywhere on my server, hence my question. If they are stored on the device locally, then again, how can I find them on the device, in which folder? Thanks in advance ![]()
This may be my last reply in this thread because it was already cited above.
Saved messages are stored the same way normal private and group messages are. They are present in the sqlite database for the profile in the msgs table with any attachments stored in the blobs dir. Both are synchronized fully between your devices. They are present transiently on the server with encryption.
to amend, a shared usage, so using the same address for Delta Chat and for classic mailers is not supported. one needs to use a dedicated address for Delta Chat - or just onboard with default settings.
also, your identity is not your address. your identity is your cryptographic setup, that exist on your devices only, not on any server. Delta Chat does not use servers as storage, but uses servers to relay encrypted messages. this means, messages are deleted as soon as possible.
if you use only one device, there is no need to relay “Saved Messages” anywhere, and they never leave the device.
for casual readers: do not worry: just use Delta Chat as any other messenger, the onboarding is one of the simplest one out there: just enter your name
so, the above and the following is about what is happening under the hood, for advanced user only
