Ability to disable an account profile on Desktop

On mobiles, you can untick a profile to stop polling it (for example in case of a host error). I could not find such an option on Desktop.

I have a feeling this makes it impossible to create another profile on a backup host while the primary is down and spinning in infinite loop. A workaround might be to export and delete each existing profile on the misbehaving host, and then import them back later, but I’m not sure whether this could carry any ill side effects.

What app are you using? I can’t find this option on Delta Chat mobile. I’ve only seen it on Arcane Chat. It’s a very useful feature and it would be amazing to see it in Delta Chat too!

I doubt that. Did you test this or do you have a reason to think why that would be so?

Oh, you’re right, it’s indeed a feature of ArcaneChat. And no, the issue seems to have been a DNS issue, so that part of the speculation does not stand.

desktop has an experimental option to only activate the selected profile, though not quite what you described.

Yes, as best practice calls for creating and actively using at least two profiles simultaneously (home and work) and ideally use at least two servers as well to deal with downtime.
