Delta Chat 2.25.0 is already available for installation in Google Play (F-droid coming soon, they always take some days) and direct download at https://get.delta.chat
between the nice enhancements are a new completely reworked channels feature with QR/links invites! so you can invite people to join your channel without having to add them manually!
other changes:
metadata protection: protect Date header
metadata protection: protect Autocrypt header
better multi-device: synchronize group creation across devices
data saving: do not send Autocrypt header in read receipts
improve on-boarding speed
allow to save to storage files shared from inside in-chat apps
don’t show badge counter in app icon for the permanent background notification
fix sorting of old media in gallery
fix text direction in “x members” subtitle for RTL languages
fix group invite QR screen’s layout
several other small fixes and improvements
all that while the app size got reduced by ~6MB!!!
By the way, in version 2.25.0, while a file is being processed before sending — whether it’s a video, photo, or any file — the message gets marked with an envelope icon, though it’s unclear why.
actually I was able to reproduce the problem, just forward a bunch of big messages and you will see the email icon appear for a second, it is not related to 2.25.0 so it is offtopic to keep talking abut it here, tested with 2.22 from f-droid and it also happens
Not yet, because the feature is still experimental.
FTR, since channels are very new, it’s possible that there are still some bugs that haven’t been found yet, which is why they are experimental. But we’re very interested in your feedback if you do try out channels!
I upgraded the Android version to 2.25, a saw a notice in one channel that was created with a previous version that the channel must be created again.
Now the new channel is created and it works well with other accounts that use 2.25. However using the QR code / invite link doesn’t work in older versions (desktop is still 2.22 afaik). Is this acknowledged?
I am created Experimental channel in Android, and added several users.
Later I could see this channel in my desktop app. But when I send post from desktop, nobody receive it. In the desktop I don’t see users that were invited from Android app.
P.S. I’m also changed channel avatar pic via desktop app. Only 1 person who was invited from desktop app can see the pic.
Other users, who were invited previously via android app, do not see the pic.
@0gx44h6r2 can you tell me what’s the version of Delta Chat on your Android and your Desktop device? On Android, you can see it in the settings at the very bottom, it should say e.g. Delta Chat 2.25.0 there. On Desktop, you can see the version at “Help → About Delta Chat”.
P.S. I guess the problem is that Experimental chat was created at Android while the Desktop version was older. It was updated after that.
But list of subscribtions was not updated after that, till now. I have 7 subscribers in Android and only 2 in Desktop, in the same experimental chat.
Hm, still, I don’t understand how this happened:
If you created the channel on Android before updating to v2.25, then you should get an error message when trying to write into it
If you created the channel on Android after updating Android to v2.25, but before updating Desktop, then the channel shouldn’t show up on Desktop at all
If you created the channel after updating both, then everything should work fine
The simplest solution is probably a shared profile. Everyone who’s supposed to post in the channel uses it. Another option would be a bot. But there isn’t one yet.
