Complete notification content shown in smartwatch.
Actual behavior
Smartwatch screen always shows: “Delta Chat: New Messages”
Steps to reproduce the problem
Send a message to generate a notification in the device with the attached smartwatch.
The notifications shows content of the message in the device, and the previously described generic message in the smartwatch.
Gloryfit is the app that connects to the smartwatch.
Message content is displayed in the smartwatch for all other apps, including SMS. Telegram messages are displayed, and, although I do not use it, Whatsapp messages are displayed too.
Smartwatch notifications display natively on iOS, and I think also on Android. GloryFit seems to be on both iOS and Android, but it is not on F-droid. As far as I can tell Gloryfit is a proprietary program that says it supports some notifications, so this request might need to be directed to Gloryfit, not Deltachat.
Sorry I didn’t mention, this was happening in Android.
Minim is right, and I am marking his post as solution.
After several hours messing with this issue I finally solved it. GloryFit app was the culprit. I disabled SMS notification and updated to version 3.9.5.b.262, and I did several other configuration changes of which I don’t know if they were related to the problem or not.
Of course GloryFit is proprietary, but sadly for most watches there is no privacy respectful solution. But, this app allows the usage with no account, most intrusive permissions disabled (I only use the watch to check the time and for Android notifications and calls), and Internet connection completely blocked by firewall. So for someone looking for a cheap calling watch is not the worst choice.
Having DC notifications in the watch will be great not only for me, but for other people I know that use GloryFit watches.
On the plus side, Google saying that it is only going to allow jailloading in future seems to have triggered a major effort to port FOSS Android apps to mobile Linux. Things may improve.
I’ve checked Gadgetbridge but it does not support Kieslect watches. In fact latest versions of this brand do not even use Gloryfit and the app they use does not work without a cloud account, so not for me.
Maybe several things. They are jailing apps in response to losing competition lawsuits; the courts forced them to allow easy installation of alternate appstores, via Google Play. It is possible that the courts may not appreciate this app-jail workaround, since it still lets Google control the apps in the third-party stores. Monopolizing the app selection from which third-party stores can subselect seems anticompetitive to me, offhand.
BTW, “him” fortunately isn’t a safe guess around these forums.
Not really, we’ve had these watches for many years. I even bought another recently.
They do what I need, except for the fact that I have to take out the phone when I get a new DC message. And they are cheap, reliable, battery lasts (over 20 days in my case, only time and notifications). And also can make and receive phone calls, just like James Bond
