I’m wondering if it is possible to eventually include a reply to notifications on Apple watch. Notifications w/ text show up on watch, but it would be helpful to be able to compose a reply to them? Not sure if that is possible.
Reasoning: carrying only a watch can be beneficial for health and focus vs full phone. and not all situations allow the carrying of a phone (b/c of security or health service contexts or other expectations), but watches are allowed.
The watch has a microphone and a (poor) camera, and either wifi or wifi+cellular connectivity, and the code is not auditable and can be changed remotely. If there are security or privacy concerns with standard slab-shaped mobiles, there should be very similar ones for what is essentially a watch-shaped mobile.
That said, if you can use the watch, typing or dictating a quick reply would be handy. Apple is pretty restrictive tho, you can’t just install Dasher as a keyboard.
Yes, quick reply (keyboard works decently) or dictation to the notification seems possible without a complicated “watchOS” app. As I recall, Signal can do this, so it is feasible if one is willing to use the watch
confirmed Beeper and Signal both do not have “watch apps” but do have the opportunity to text or dictate a reply through the shared notifications with the device. This seems to indicate that, since neither of these apps have WatchOS apps, that the ability to reply to a notification (or mark as read) has to do with how the app works with notifications on the phone, which are also sent to the watch via paired connection. I will say that this, finding this out will make it harder to switch some contacts from Signal.
beeper has “Reply” or “Dismiss”
signal has “reply” “mark read” “thumbs up” and “dismiss”
delta only has “dismiss” leaving message unread.
here is Signal screenshot:
wonderful! i hope that can be added-- since it is present in many apps (open and closed source) i wonder if it is a standardized UI thing. alas! i know things as an educated layman not a app coding.
is there any likelihood of having the reply field possible in notifications on iOS? and consequently, presumably, watchOS?
I imagine, since this isn’t a bug, likelihood of such a change in UI seems low. However, iPad and iPhone would benefit from such a revision as I believe it allows one to reply to a message directly from the notifications screen rather than opening the app.
The devs are currently short on funding and time, making it unfortunately unlikely that this will happen soon. But a volunteer might step up, this is open-source. You might find others wanting this feature.
it might not be a watch thing; rather a revision of notifications handling (reply from iOS notification with message/ reaction/ mark as read)
i have not expertise in this but may try to look into it; would contribute a small bounty. not of great means, but usefulness does have value, at least to replicate Signal “ease of use” as much as possible for better adoption of Delt
i’ve edited the subject as I think what i’m asking about is not a watchos capability but being able to reply to messages directly from the notifications menu, which transfers over to watch notifications (as with element, signal, beeper)
