Is the configure screen really empty?
Having the logs, info output (from the about screen) and the config table of the account database (question: are the right credentials in the right config fields?) would help to identify the problem. But as those might contain sensitive information they shouldn’t be posted publicly.

Not sure - Unfortunately I can’t reproduce this any longer as the downloaded 1.14 version stopped working with this message (deleted as I can’t add more comments and only 1 image per comment)

[Edit] (damn, I run into soooo many restrictions as a ‘new user’ on this forum … sigh)

I was too fast here (I’m getting pulled on from my kids right now and just wanted to send a DC message “quickly”) … so I had to allow it to open again from the “Security & Privacy” settings. Now Im getting greeted with this unusable screen:

The configured account name is empty and I can’t click it or get to its settings … I guess I’ll have to do some manual poking at the configuration database … -_-

Here’s an anonymized excerpt from the logfile. What’s curious:

the app starts from the regular location and then starts to referring to files that it seems to have picked up from my attached carbon copy cloner drive, that’s weird.
at some point SMTP seems to login fine (if i read the log correctly), but IMAP still isn’t able to connect

Looking at the config table something curious: there are multiple entries “addr”, “mail_", "send_” that are emtpy but “configured_addr” and “configured_mail_" and "configured_send_” have the right values. I’ll try to “fix” this by adding those values to the plain entries.

Everything I could read from the log is that it thinks that your PW is wrong.

It’s weird that only the “configured_” configs have values but in theory this should not be a problem because we are mostly using those after configuration. Maybe we are using the ones without “_config” somewhere

ll try to “fix” this by adding those values to the plain entries.

it’ll be interesting to hear whether this fixes it.

Another thing you can try is: Try the Android or iOS app (my guess is: it will work there as it’s a desktop-specific bug)

At least for one issue I could help you: I lifted the “newby” restrictions for you.

So recap:

You had an old version of DC, logged in there.
you changed your emails accounts password.
you updated DC to 1.14.x and encountered password wrong.
your attempt updating the credentials failed.
you said you’ll mess with the db in hope to fix it manually.

right?

Which old version did you upgrade from?
Can you tell me more about your attempt to fix the configuration? Is something in that procedure/dialog buggy?
Did your manual edit of the db fix it?

Right. I’m not sure what the old version was.

I think the update UI was already broken when I noticed that its an old password and trying to update it.

I manually fixed it in the DB - as I wrote above, some fields exist multiple times and I synchronized them - after that everything works fine again. (I do have some issue with autocrypt that I think is unrelated, though).

The procedure/dialog that was buggy was: the account name was empty and thus i could not even click in some areas (like the multi account selection when starting the app or the settings dialog that should be showing the email address, I think).

PS: Do you have a backup with the old - wrong password db? I’m wondering if the missing values were caused by the older version.

testing 1.14.1-Linux-Desktop
imported the backup data from old version and used 1.14.1Linux Desktop version for one day with no problems(i tested all new improvements).
