one of the more significant in this new release is the new capability to use several chatmail relay servers at the same time in a single profile, just scan some chatmail qr to add an address to your existing account
i just tried on android2.33 - in general, it works as expected. enter your credentials at Create New Profile → Use Other Server → Use Classic Email as Relay and you’re good to go. so your issue seems more specific and we would need more information, a screenshot/cast or a log
for casual readers: this is advanced! recommended way is just Create New Profile → Enter Name
Also another detail:
Scanning the QR from one of the chatmails sites lets you add it as a relay directly, but clicking the link only let’s you create an account from scratch.
So if you only have one device you have to be taking an screenshot and then importing it to add the transport.
I think clicking the links on chatmail pages should also let you decide if you want to add it as transport instead of creating an account from scratch.
no, adding classic email as additional providers is currently not supported directly.
if wanted, you should start with the classic provider, and add other relays afterwards. this may or may not change in the future, there are lots of discussions ongoing
no, it is on purpose to ask for creating a profile in this case - you get to the list of relays from creating a profile, and surely want to create a profile when tapping a link there
note that adding transports manually is advanced, while creating profile is not. so it is fine, if adding a transport requires explicit action before
It makes sense that if you can have a classic email as main relay you can also have it as secondary relay.
This should be helpful when a country decides to start blocking chatmail relays like has happened before (Cuba for example), since they usually don’t block common providers like gmail, disroot, etc or their own national emails, so in this cases if you added one of these classic emails as a fallback relay you should be able to stay in contact with your friends or family.
I don’t think there is any restriction in the core about adding classic emails as secondary relays, right? So there is not really anything stoping this but making a UI for this in the clients.
Regarding this specific problem, there is no need to take a screenshot: you can copy the URL the QR code links to, and on the screen inside Delta Chat, go in the menu with 3 dots in the upper corner and “paste”. It’s not obvious and it should be made more easy to reach, but it’s more straightforward than taking a screenshot.
It seems that you can have “Multi-device mode” option enabled and at the same time have “Delete messages from server” option set “At once after download” which makes no sense. This is when you create an account from scratch using a classic email as relay.
Android 2.33.1
yeah that is on you then for setting that option and wanting multi-device at the same time I guess we assume you are an advanced user and know what you are doing, but eventually we will probably remove that option completely also for classic email users (it is already gone for chatmail) and leave only the multi-device switch and then it is up to you to clean up your inbox or set some server rule filter
Hi everyone! A huge thank you to the development team for the opportunity to add chatmail relays! This is really cool! Is it possible to add a classic email service as a second relay?
