If the communist manifesto was removed from the webxdc app store because it did not clearly fit into Games or Tools why is the bible reader allowed? Is the bible reader a game or a tool? The communist manifesto and the bible reader have both the same function for letting users read and study a text, the major difference is just the choice of the text. I don’t understand why one app is allowed and the other one is forbidden.
It would be very nice to have more transparency about who is maintaining the webxdc app store and how these moderation decisions are made because it seems that there are unwritten rules which are selectively applied, which is not fair to the app developers and their audience.
Back then, there were relatively few apps in the xstore, and the presence of the Communist Manifesto there could give new users the impression that DC was a political project. It was removed to avoid that.
Otherwise I don’t recall cases of outside contributors’ apps getting rejected or removed (this is not an invitation to try).
For the future, consider alternative stores. One can change the store in iOS and Android Delta Chat settings (not so much on Desktop currently though). Some examples:
I would also emphasize that an “App Store” is literally just an html page with a list, if you want it to be. Host it for free on GitHub pages. You don’t need to be a super clever developer to do this.
