Items on main top menu vs items in 3 dot menu

Hi. Why were some important items permanently hidden in 3 dot menu? I mean when you long press someone’s message, the option to answer or delete is available only via 3 dot menu. While I can understand delete, that I totally can’t get “answer” option. Placing it on main top menu would save many additional taps, when you often answer to someone messages. It’s just uncomfortable to use.

Could it be made optional to have particularly “answer” option on main menu?

Look, there is some additional space for at least one icon on the main chat menu, it could be even two if spacing was tighter.

Seems to be a duplicate of Add "Reply" Icon to top toolbar when long-pressing a message, to which there is an answer: Reply easily with "Swipe-To-Reply".

Yes, seems so. Sorry for dup. Language + technicals are still kinda barrier for me.

Anyway I would still like to have a choice of how to reply. I’m not used to use side swipes and I disable them all options in all apps by default.

thanks a lot for the feedback, we recognised that.

the space for direct-action-icons is limited - therefore, less used actions and actions usually performed in other, quicker ways go to the three dot menu.

that’s how it is, we won’t add options for that or make the menu configurable, options on that level of detail are not in the gist of delta chat. in general we design for the “many”, there will always be cases and users that would prefer differently, on many levels and for all options.

but, as said, we still hear you

how did you disable swipe-to-reply? for delta chat and for other apps? is there a system option for that? if so, this would be an interesting aspect.

also: can’t you use the swipe-to-reply in your setup at all - or do you just not like it?

Oh, I meant for particular apps, that make it possible to configure swipe gestures. I’ve got it in the set of Goodwy’s Right apps - Phone, Contacts, Messages, Telegram forks, some players (where gestures control volume and brightness), and so on.

By now swipe gestures made sense for me, when they do global action for the app, like going back and forth through the pictures in gallery. I’d rather stay with that in all apps to make my app use consistent.

Btw. Goodwy’s apps (fork of Simple Mobile Tools) is a good example how it can be configurable to choose to perform global actions (eg to cycle through app screens) or contextual actions (like make an action for the item).

Of course I understand you will not satisfy everyone’s wishes, but it’s good to know that I’m not alone in my preference.

I’ll try to use swipe to quote to reply, maybe it becomes more comfy that using three dot.
