Could you make it so that when disappearing messages are enabled, it’s possible to select any message and make it non-disappearing? A pin or paperclip icon would appear at the top of that message to indicate that it will remain. The same option should also be available to remove this feature from a message.
Some messages should sometimes not be deleted.
Add the ability to quote the selected text fragment specifically, as it is sometimes more convenient than quoting the entire message.
There is already a “Save” function that can be used to keep the message is “Saved messages” chat, but the original one still disappears. Maybe original message should be kept.
This is not quite what I would like. It adds messages to the ‘saved messages’ folder. What I need is for it to stay in the conversation folder; if it is pinned, it should not be deleted when all other messages that are not marked as undeletable are removed after the set time for their deletion.
And also. I would like to be able to copy the invitation QR code to the clipboard or save it as an image. Unfortunately, there is no such option, so I have to take a screenshot to share or post my contact somewhere. Sometimes this is necessary! There is a link there; I don’t know how safe this method is. One does not interfere with the other.
The link and QR code are equivalent. The QR code is just an encoding of the link. If opened in a browser, the links/codes act as links; if in Deltachat, they establish a contact to whom you can send messages. You can paste the URL into the “Scan QR Code” screen just as if it were an image.
I can copy my QR code, but it copies as a URL, which is fine.
Both methods are equally safe if you transmit them over a secure channel. The easiest way to do that would be scanning a friend’s screen, because it is hard to mount a man-in-the-middle attack on that.
But sending the URL on a secure messenger (say, Signal) should also be pretty secure. You can double-check by comparing the fingerprints afterwards (under “Encryption Info”, you and your friend should have the same codes).
I would like to have the option to easily copy the QR code image to the clipboard or save it directly. It should be in good quality, rather than having to cut it out from a screenshot, so that it can be saved in the desired format right away.
beside maintenance burden, there is some interfere: the user has to decide the way to share the thing, and then the receiver has to deal and learn two ways. this is esp. bad if Delta Chat is not installed yet. the invite link works in these cases.
we had “copy as image” on some platforms before, but we dropped ittuned it down for these reasons, still a screenshot works here and there, as we left the “import image from clipboard”. but it is not the supported way.
There is a link there; I don’t know how safe this method is.
it is safe. the server does not get to know or work with any data, you can check the source at GitHub - deltachat/invite: Invite links for deltachat - but it is also obvious as the links work when both sides have installed Delta Chat and are offline.
the content if the QR code is also just the link, however, the server is not accessed at all.
we might want to add that clearer to the faq. though
