New user -- Three (simple?) questions

Thanks a lot for developing this application and helping new users – I had tried it a couple of years ago, let it aside, and am really impressed by where it is now.

I have a couple of questions:

  • I have read this thread for example, am I correct in my understanding that the correct way of starting a chat with somebody is to preferably scan their QR code in person, and if it is not possible, to share the https://i.delta.chat/… invite link otherwise?
  • This is still, as of today, the best way of migrating between email providers, correct? If I am using e.g. bcc.chat, then since I cannot configure email migration, this means that I cannot migrate my account to a different email provider, correct?
  • I have tried to join this forum using the https://login.support.delta.chat feature, but I don’t think it is working – I seem to be stuck at the “waiting for a reply from delta-identity@testrun.org” step.

Thanks a lot!

As far as I know, the link and the QR code contain the same level of cryptographic secret, I think, and are interchangeable. You would want to share either of them through a channel that can’t be tampered with, or you won’t technically be super guaranteed to get end-to-end-encryption. The most obvious safe channel is in person.

As for account migration I don’t know, but remember you can easily use multiple accounts at the same time too. Perhaps that way, doing the migration “manually” might be less painful.
