First use-case I have in mind is to keep it simple. So like 5-6 people.
Is there a webxdc to generate a Jitsi or Kmeet Link ? (to get group calls).
I know I could get the link myself but it would be easier for someone like my grandma to make group calls with her friends.
delta chat has built-in calls, your grandma doesn’t need to generate jitsi invite links, you are not making it easier for her if she already has to go over all that effort of using some mini-app to generate links and share around plus the meeting UI is cryptic for non-technical people
Grandma is an example. It was just a suggestion to get a quick alternative way to get group calls (actual Delta Chat buit-in calls are only one-to-one) in Delta chat.
Actually, I have an opportunity to move some people from Whatsapp. One of the condition is “group calls” (for 3 or 4 persons simultaneously) via phone (not the Delta desktop app).
I could put them on Signal, but I know if I do, I will never get another opportunity to put them on something better (= not on a centralised USA server).
I think I will install them Jitsi too and we will exchange Jitsi links via Delta chat.
most of the time you will be the one creating the link then, you don’t even need a new link every time, you could create a link for the group’s “voice/video room” and share it in the group maybe put it in the group description, then people can just go there and click the link and join the group’s video/voice room
we are also going to add pinned messages soon this year, so you could as well pin the message with the room link
that said, creating a webxdc that you configure with some jitsi server url and that automatically sends a call invitation in the room/group is very possible! on clicking the special info message that will appear in the chat the mini-app will be open and from there it can forward to the actual jitsi url, users will get offered to open browser/jitsi meet app

I like to use crab.fit to schedule group meetings. In my use cases it works a lot better than doodle, or derivatives thereof. Crab.fit is open source.
I’d really like to see a mini-app replicating the functionality of crab.fit, but I have about zero experience in coding and my attempts at vibe coding a crab.fit mini-app didn’t lead to the expected results. So if anyone would be interested in taking this up, you’d make me very happy =)
Not gonna happen in the forseeable future for delta chat unfortunately.
I know what you mean, but you might be surprised. Once you get them to switch apps, it kind of becomes easier to switch apps again later. Neuro-plasticity or something
